Description

18th Century Liverpool Porcelain James Pennington Printed Saucer. Transfer printed in black with "La Cascade" pattern, centering a fashionable couple walking by a figural fountain, a mandolin player and an amorous couple to the side. All under a dentil and dot band under a slender band at the rim. 

Not marked. 

Circa 1775.

1 1/8" H. x 5" Diameter. 

Parallels: Bernard Rackham, Catalogue of the Schreiber Collection of English Porcelain, Earthenware, Enamels, etc. Volume I, 1915, no. 787, (two teabowls and saucers now preserved at the Victoria and Albert Museum, nos. 414:789/ to C-1885 (Sch. I 787 to C). The Fountain print is after an engraving by G. Scotin, based on Jean-Antoine Watteau painting. (The painting now preserved at the Richard Wallace Collection, London, No. P395).
