Art Deco Georg Jensen Danish Sterling Silver Box Model #857A
This fine sterling silver box has all of the hallmarks - literally - for which Jensen is famous - first-rate materials, clean lines, and absolute elegance. The box is heavy in the hand, with a bold design. Designed by Georg Jensen's second son, Jorgen Jensen (1895 - 1960). Starting just before World War I, Jorgen Jensen received training from the Munich goldsmith Leonard Ebert; he also studied at the City School of Arts and Crafts, Munich. He worked as a member of G. Jensen from 1917 to 1923, and again from 1936-1962.
From 1923 to 1936 he operated his own workshop in Stockholm. He rejoined the Jensen firm in 1936 and worked as a designer there until 1962.
