A Nice William IV Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon by William Sobey. The spectacular retangfular bowl of this spoon has fluted corners and in curved sides. The fiddle handle has been engraved with initials 'AEC'. The craftsman, William Rawlings Sobey (1811 – 1852), was an Exeter silversmith, born c.1811. His makers marks are registered from 1833 to about 1852. A contemporary of John Stone, he also manufactured spoons, butter-knives and other flatware in the Fiddler and Old English patterns. William died in 1852 aged 41.
