Art Deco Georg Jensen Silver Cigarette Box designed by Sigvard Bernadotte
This fine sterling silver box has all of the hallmarks - literally - for which Jensen is famous - first-rate materials, clean lines, and absolute elegance. The box was designed by Sigvard Bernadotte, one of Jensen's most famous designers who was also a Prince of Denmark. He lost his title when he married a commoner, but became one of the longest-lived grandsons of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert nonetheless. Sigvard Bernadotte was an incredibly productive industrial designer.
The box is molded with multiple ribs to the sides, and has low squared rectilinear feet and clasp. It is heavy in the hand, with a bold design. Impressed marks, model #712, facsimile signature to underside. Circa 1935
