French Creil and Montereau Creamware Rebus Plates Circa 1820, a group of two (2) plates, transfer-printed in warm black with a border of laurel leaves and scrolls to the shoulder, and two puzzle pictures, rebus pictures, to the center. The first is from Rebus No. 8 and the second from Rebus No. 10.
The imagery is based on Legros d'Anizy's design and engravings for Rebus patterns. These designs won the Gold Prize for Invention and Perfection of Design at the Porcelain Exposition of 1819.
8 1/2" D. x 1" H.
Both with wear and abrasions to faces, one with a rim chip.
