Important Pair of Contemporary Studio Pottery Stoneware "Love Seat" Chairs by Japanese-American potter Kazuko Matthews, each of arching slab form with three heights, painted with bands of colors and motifs familiar from Japanese textiles.

Kazuko Matthews, b. USA 1934, raised inJapan, and returned to USA post WWII.

Signed to underside.

Kazuko Kayasuga Matthews attended Mt. San Antonio College, and Chouinard Art Institute, where she studied with Otto and Vivica Heino.Later, she attended Santa Monica College and Scripps College, where she was a student of Paul Soldner.

Ms. Matthews' work is represented in The Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum; the Marer Collection, Scripps College; Oakland Museum, Oakland CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA. Her work has also been purchased by several corporate collections.
