Description
Victorian Hair Mourning Jewelry bracelet, plaited with four tubes of brunette netted mesh hair, centering a gold plated locket, the clasps engraved with foliate designs. Centering shaped oval, glazed locket with braided dark blonde hair. The back engraved S L Snow.
Circa 1865 - 1870.
6 3/4” L., the locket 1” W. Roughly 1/8” H.
Condition: the hair is in remarkably good condition. Minor wear and scratching to clasps and locket.
Hair jewelry for mourning the loss of a loved one was first made popular in the 18th Century. Britain's Queen Victoria wore a bracelet with a miniature of Prince Albert, and a locket of his hair, after his death.
