Description

18th Century Worcester Porcelain Lilac Painted Coffee Cup with Chinoiserie Scene.

The bell-shaped cup with wishbone handle, "penciled" in purple monochrome enamel with Chinoiserie figural scenes. The pattern known as the "Two Storey House" pattern incorporates two figures conversing before a two-storied home, one leaning by a vase and obelisk, with a broad palm tree in the background. The entire scene is enclosed by delicate rococo scrolls. The cup verso painted with a floral spray. The interior rim painted with a band of stylized foliage.

Unmarked.

Circa 1758-1760.

Dots of frit near handle, two dots of fritting on the rim; three extremely shallow divots in the primary scene, over-glazed, so presumable as manufactured and sold. A few light scratches to surface consistent with age. Please feel free to request a FaceTime review of this item.
