Description

Rare 18th Century Worcester Porcelain Coffee Cup Singing Lesson Variant Print.

The coffee cup on foot with ridged handle and very slightly everted rim. Transfer-printed in black enamel with a rare variation of Robert Hancock's "The Singing Lesson" with the Music Teacher standing, playing the flute and the lady seated with an open score in her lap. The rustic ruins usually present to the left of the Teacher is absent in this variation. Three tree form a rhythmic element in between the figures. The more simplistic visual elements, the intense depth to the enamel and the crispness of the print combine to make this a great rarity.

Unmarked.

Circa 1758-1760.

2 1/4" H., Diameter 2 1/4 not including handle.

Minute nick to rim, near a 1/4" l. hairline crack to rim. The footrim has a shallow rim.
