Description

SOLD French Montereau Creamware Plate, Transfer-Printed in black named scene in French, of "Le Grecs Recevant la Benediction a Missolonghi" showing a mother and child seated near the Greek Orthodox Holy Father giving the blessing before a crowd of citizens, including Copts and Ottoman Turks. The shoulder printed with laurel leaves and scrolling foliage.

Impressed marks to underside.    

8.5" D. 1" H.

Circa 1830.

The print on the face of the plate is very crisp and fine. The foot of the plate has a star crack and two splotches of ceramic, evidence of over-stacking in the kiln. 

The factories of Creil and Montereau merged in 1819.
