Sold18th Century Doccia Porcelain Saucer with Swags and Festoons and Putti.  

The Italian porcelain factory at Doccia has produced some wonderful sculptural works in the white, filled with operatic drama. This fine saucer is moulded with putti holding the swagging ropes which enclose festoons of fruit and flowers. Each swag cuts across a 90 degree section of the saucer, so that is essentially a square image within the round surface. The Neo-classical imagery is inspired by earlier Roman designs. The modern Ginori factory has its roots in Doccia, which was founded in the mid-18th Century by Marchese Carlo Ginori.

(A few spots of frit to surface, and a couple of kiln blow-outs. These are small darkened splotches on the surface of a ceramic object, where glaze formed a bubble in the kiln, and then the bubble burst.)
