James Wayne Blown Glass Vase Vessel
Description
James Wayne (California, USA, Active 1960-1980) Blown Glass Vase Vessel. Outsize dynamic form in a bicolor blue and clear glass vessel with extruded sides. Two drips of glass to center front and back increase sense of active movement. Lobed sides in blue with areas impressed with dense mesh patterns. Solid top pierced with blow hole, large enough for a single floral stem. Signed to underside with incised signature, “Jim Wayne.” Not dated, circa 1968-1970. 5” H. X 7 1/2” W. X 5” D. Very good condition with minor surface wear and scratches consistent with age. Please note that the large glob of blue glass with a drip across center front is not a crack, but purposeful dripped glass.
James Wayne had a short career, in which he made ceramics and glass. His work can be considered the studio glass equivalent of funk pottery.
